Graeme finally had his sleep study last night and made it through the night! Now, what kind of things take place during a sleep study that require confessions, you ask? Read on...
Confession No.1: I did not brush my teeth last night...actually, not until after getting home today.
Confession No.2: Steven and I slept in the clothes we put on yesterday afternoon. We wore them home too.
Confession No.3: Graeme freaked over the nasal cannula again. He ended up having only one of them in instead of both (CO2 and O2).
Confession No.4: Graeme and I co-slept in a regular ol' bed AND there were loose blankets involved too! Hey, what better time to co-sleep than when he is being monitored by a zillion things?
Confession No.5: We called it "morning" and ended the study when he woke at 4:15 AM.

Getting all set up for the sleep study |
Seriously though, we finally made it through a sleep study! Graeme was a champ about it. He got a bit hysterical after the nasal cannula went on and it took some time to get him calm. He pulled that off, along with a couple of the other wires. However, once he calmed down and had a bottle, I got him to sleep and we were able to put the cannula back on. He's not a fan of sleeping on his back, but it was necessary for the study. I ended up having him lay next to me in the bed. It was the only way to keep him calm, on his back, and stop him from pulling the nasal cannula off. Of course, we ended up laying across the bed so that there wasn't much room for me. Not that being uncomfortable mattered too much, because I didn't really sleep anyway. It was a constant battle to keep his hands away from his face. He woke up a couple times for feedings, and it was fun trying to pick him up and not knock off any wires, pulse monitor, cannula, etc. When he woke at 4:15, he was wide-eyed so we decided to consider it wake-up time and end the study. They had all the time needed for the study, so there didn't really seem to be any reason to try to get him to go back to sleep with all that stuff on him. He didn't like it coming off, or being cleaned up afterwards, but he was much happier once it was all done. So proud of him (and us!) for making it through! We should get the results in a week or so, and hopefully all is well and we never have to do another one of these things!
