We had Graeme's 6 month checkup last Thursday. He was 23.5", 14 lbs. 9 oz., and had a head circumference of 48cm. I think the doctor said all his measurements were around the 75th percentile on the achon growth charts. It's hard to believe he hasn't grown much, because he seems so much longer to me. He's fitting in 6 month and 6/9 month onesies and 3 month separates, although the 3 month t-shirts are starting to get a little bit small.
Graeme also had his first play date! We visited Rebecca and Zach and their two littles ones, Clark (18 months) and Annie (who is only two weeks younger than Graeme). Obviously, Graeme and Annie are a little young to play together, but they did share a teether toy briefly with each of them holding an end of it. Too cute! And Clark gave Graeme hugs which was so sweet. It was a lot of fun for me too, just to be able to get out and talk with other parents and feel a bit more normal.
Graeme is learning how to do so much! He's still totally into eating his fingers and just about anything else that can go in his mouth. He's finally started to bring his feet up and reach for them. Before, he would grab his toes if we lifted his foot into the air where he could see it, but now he's doing it all himself. He also likes to use his feet to grab at or play with various objects. Such a little monkey!
Graeme is also reaching for anything else he sees. He reaches for his toys, the dogs (which they aren't too excited about), our faces, and his bottle. He won't hold the bottle himself although Steven and I agree that he can. He just figures why bother if someone else will do the work for him. :) However, he still loves to be in control and grabs our hands to pull the bottle in and out of his mouth.
Graeme is really excited to be gaining more independence with all of this. He gets very frustrated when he can't do something he wants to do. At this point, that means crawling, standing, and walking. He's trying so hard to crawl! With a lot of effort, he can move himself a few inches. He just hasn't quite figured out how to move his arms yet...he just pushes as hard as he can with his legs. He can push up on his arms and roll over both ways. And he's doing great with his head control. He still bobbles a little sometimes, but he's mostly got it down now. When we hold him in a standing position, he loves to bounce up and down. Our pediatrician was very happy with his motor development and said he's pretty close to par for his age right now.
Now that he can roll over so well, he's started to sleep on his tummy. And refuses to be happy any other way. If he accidentally rolls onto his back during the night, he is sure to let us know. Graeme is still waking up to eat multiple times through the night but every now and then he gives us a good night where he only wakes once. We make sure to cherish those!
Right now, Graeme loves his teether toys, his kick-n-play piano, and anything that rattles. He's learned how to shake the rattles and think that is great fun. He also can put his pacifier in and out on his own now, so his wubbanub giraffe is a big favorite too. He still adores the dogs. Ours and other dogs, although our dogs seem to be his favorite. They're usually pretty reliable help when I want to make him smile. He still enjoys his bath time and, interestingly enough, his diaper changes. I think he just likes to have his diaper off. If he could go around naked all day, he's be happy with that. He also likes story time and tries to help me turn the pages in the books.
Overall, he's at a really fun stage. We love watching him observe the world and learn more and more. He's so curious and just wants to take everything in. He's working hard to hit new milestones, and we can't wait to see him progress. It feels like things are just going to get more interesting from here!
